| In December of 2007, I made a little visit to Vancouver, BC. What a fabulous place :) I couldn't take many photos due to the weather. The locals were fun and friendly. The trip was entertaining and relaxing. I saw new and different places and met some new friends. I also spent quality time with some old friends. I think I will one day live here. I stayed at the Downtown Ramada. The Ramada was the old Niagara Hotel built around the turn of the century. Map of 435 W Pender Street Vancouver, BC V6B, CA Below are some pics from my hotel windows. I had a corner room which doubled my opportunities. On the ground floor of the hotel was a fabulous pub named Yaggers. In there I found great food, wonderful beers, and friendly people. One afternoon (early evening) the film industry was performing a movie shoot in front of my hotel at the Homer/Pender intersection. The crew you see is on Homer, just south of Pender and facing north. Below are photos taken by the memorial park near the corner of Cambie and Hastings. This is apparently the hub for some alternative or differently minded industries. If you look closely at the photo on the right, you will find the BCMP and the New Amsterdam Cafe. The BCMP houses the BC Marijuana Party and a vapour lounge. The New Amsterdam Cafe appears to also be a vapour lounge. (To get anywhere on their website, you need to register.) Below is an image taken in historic Gastown. This is a funky, fun, but a little seedy part of downtown Vancouver. The famous steam clock is in the photo on the left. Yaletown is the new Condo heaven in downtown Vancouver. It is a fabulous place to live. The prices are crazy expensive, yet they have many more buildings under construction. The office below is located in the lone gap waiting for a developer to begin a condo project. An exceptionally attractive Yaletown local I chatted with told me that developers were negotiating with the land owners to fill in this gap with condos. They are negotiating with the office occupants to find a new location for the existing business. The window murals of the existing office building were entertaining. It turns out the existing business is a man-spa called Madame Cleo's. On my way from Yaletown to the bookstore on Homer, I had to walk past the back of the man-spa. I noticed some exceptionally attractive models observing smoke break behind the building. They were friendly and waved and briefly chatted before I continued on my way. Throughout the city, I saw construction projects getting ready for the 2010 Winter Olympics. The most prominent project was the Canada Line rail project. There are huge trenches downtown with some very impressive cut and cover construction work. Unfortunately, it was always raining when I was near the trenches, so I was unable to get any photos. When you visit Vancouver, make sure you nominate someone for the Vancouver Tourism Awards at www.wherevancouver.com/vta. Tell them Mike sent you :) over netizen visitors since 12/25/07 |
